If the hat don’t fit…
It is a continual evolution, this thing we call life. We think we see it, we think we embrace it. We look back at chapters—“when I was a child,” “before I had kids”—as if we remained exactly the same person throughout them. As if each new day does not bring a challenge, a lesson, or something to grow through.
But if you take the time to pause, to really still, you can almost see the evolution happen before your eyes. And with that stillness comes the freedom to move, to ebb, and to flow. You can work with the changes. You can amend your direction of travel, set yourself back on course, and save the immense energy it takes to pull yourself back from foreign shores after accidentally drifting along someone else’s journey.
Trust in your path and remove the friction where you can. What is meant for you will always catch up, but perhaps if you listen carefully and look for the signs, you will notice that it never needed to be this hard. Make no mistake, there are battles to be fought. But some are entirely avoidable if you can pause and see that you’re chasing something not meant for you. You’re simply in the wrong room, walking down the wrong path.
Do not panic. There are always lessons learned, transferable skills, and stories to tell. This is not about regret. But if we can take what happens to us, with us, and through us, and use that data to light the way forward, we can enter spaces we never thought possible. This is where the magic lives. You must chase it.
So, if our paths separate, know it is for no other reason than me realising you’re taking a route that isn’t right for me right now. I will cheer your journey from afar, and delight at whatever crossovers we have in the future.
This is not about you. This is about me.
For if the hat don’t fit, I’m so sorry, but I can’t wear it.
